We are committed to recruiting and retaining staff who genuinely want to make a difference to the lives of children and young people. We seek to employ people who are positive about what they do and who are prepared to ‘hang in there’ long after others would have given up.
Recruitment: All residential child care staff are recruited through an assessment centre process and are interviewed by children and young people. We follow safe recruitment guidance and our recent Care Commission inspection of this area of our work evaluated our approach as 'very good'.
Induction: Residential child care staff undertake a minimum ten day induction programme which includes child protection, the Sanctuary® model and child development.
Ongoing training and learning: Residential child care staff have access to external training and our own training and learning programme. This includes the Sanctuary® model, emotional health and wellbeing, children who missue drugs and alcohol and other specialist areas.
Team learning: All care teams are encouraged to develop their own team learning plan which sets out shared learning goals. This allows teams to develop learning in areas relevant to the young people they provide care for.
