Types of fostering

Care Visions offer different types of fostering that you can choose to specialise in which could be more suitable for you and your family’s lifestyle, skills and experience.

Short term/assessment placements: This can be anything from an overnight stay to a period of several months.  Carers essentially provide a temporary place until the child can return home or a longer term arrangement is made.

Emergency and crisis placements: Urgent placements required at very short notice that can last anything from a few days to a few months, for instance if a lone parent is taken ill suddenly and their is no alternate care for the young person.

Respite placement: Where you would have a child for only a few hours per week or a couple of weekends a month to give their full time carers or family a break.

Long term placements: A longer term placement where the child or young person will generally not manage to go back to their own families for a number of years, if at all.  This type of placement aims to provide a secure, consistent base for the young person, where possible in close geographical proximity to their own home area.

Sibling/ Parent and baby: Where possible we try not to split up siblings or parent and baby so we also look for carers that have the space to place more than one, or indeed have the appropriate skills to help teach the young parent how to care for their baby.
