It is essential that our children and young people are placed in safe and caring environments where they feel welcome, cared for, respected and valued. Our network of foster carers work with us at Care Visions to create this environment and we fully support our foster carers through training and on call support to do the best job they can. Here are some of the things you will be expected to do as a foster carer:
Commitment: You will need to commit time, energy and space in your life and home for the children or young people you look after.
Provide support: To ensure that you do all you can to support children and young people in their education, look after their health and promote their social wellbeing.
Manage behaviour: The past experiences of the child, as well as the traumatic experience of being moved from their family and home, can present itself in challenging or difficult behaviour. As a foster carer you will need to work with the young person, with the support of Care Visions, to help manage their feelings and experiences.
Working with Care Visions and local authorities: As well as the day-to-day care of the child, you will need to set aside time to attend meetings about the children in your care with Care Visions and other parties. There is also a requirement to keep written records and manage information that is confidential and sensitive.
Manage relationships: You must be able to communicate effectively, not only with children and young people but with social workers, the children's birth families (where appropriate) and others concerned with the wellbeing of the children.
